Rename (extension) in addition to Move Selected?

Post by GHuston »

I have been wanting to Rename, rather than Move, selected, duplicate files, so they remain where they are, but (for example) with a different extension. Does that already exist in some form; if so, could someone tell me how? If not, doesn't it seem like a reasonable option?

Wonderful program, by the way. I just donated something to allay some of my guilt for using it so much! Keep up the good work.

Sorry, I forgot that you can Right-Click and Rename, but I would like an Auto-Rename (probably specify a new extension), for all the checked files. Or, could specify a string to prepend or append the the FileName or Extension, so the files can remain where they are, but be identified later as duplicates (and left out of further search criteria).
Thanks,

Thanks for your generous donation!
There is no bulk renaming option in the current version, however it is a very good idea and something I'll try and add to the in-development version 2.0.

The nearest I can suggest is to use the move files tool (retaining folder structure), and use another bulk rename utility on this folder structure, then (carefully!) move the folder tree back to it's original structure.

Thanks for the move/rename suggestion. Although that workaround takes a few more steps, it is certainly doable.

Another suggestion (or two), if you're open to them:

DOUBLE-CLICK SEARCH CRITERIA INTO/OUT-OF SEARCH PATHS:

On the side-by-side "Search Criteria" windows, it would be nice to move folders into or out of the right hand folder by double-clicking on the desired entry. This is a common standard in moving list entries from one side-by-side window to another. It's usually quicker (to me) than the select the entry, then Right-click, then select the move option, paradigm.

[and/or]

DRAG FOLDER OUT-OF SEARCH PATHS:

I notice that you allow a folder to be dragged INTO the "Search Paths" window, but not OUT-OF; that would also be more efficient than the right-click, although I don't know how much trouble it would be to implement.

Thanks,

The above is implemented now in DC 2.0 :)
