What files to delete?

Post by Kieko »

If a person knows nothing about a computer and it's files, how in the world do you know what to delete safely from the scan results? I think the "Duplicate Files remover" is great but being computer illiterate I don't know how or what to delete. Is there not file extention guides to go by that you should not delete or something? Is there also a simple way (I know you think the instructions already are) for us computer illiterates to be able to use the program safely? I know these are a lot of questions but they need answers that I and others don't have. Thank you in advance.

Being safe and aware of possible negative consequences is the first thing, and it seems you are.

Then the question is, do you have any _need_ to remove (duplicate) files?

If not, then just do not do it.

Do not remove files from folders you did not create yourself. You may scan folders with documents or files you put or copied there yourself, like pictures or music files for example. You may even be a little more safe by creating hard links to such files: it saves some space without actually deleting access to these files' contents.
