Impossibly Slow

Post by Justin »

This seems to be incredibly slow. So much so as that it is unusable.

It seems to want to take more than a day to delete 9.14GB and I still have another 48 GB to go, and for the past hour it has been on 0% complete. To get to the deleting stage I had to wait all day to get through the calculating stage.

My system is new and high spec. See below. Any suggestions on how I can speed this up? If I can't I suspect I will need to look for a different solution and would like to know how to get a refund. Thanks

Are you deleting from local disks rather that from a LAN or something else?

How are you deleting?
Direct, to Recycle Bin, renaming, moving ... ?

Do you have logging (of the delete actions) enabled?

As noted, LAN or delete to the Recycler can be slower.

If you are getting a slow response while deleting then on some systems unchecking the 'Via windows shell' option first is much faster. The files are then deleted directly by duplicate cleaner and not put through the Windows system (though you don't get the graph, estimate remaining, etc).

I'm deleting directly from my computer. I do have via the recycle bin. but I woke up this morning and it says that 49,590 files and 9.11GB are still waiting to be deleted. I don't think I have logging enabled.

It has ticked what I thought was the default settings of via windows shell and direct to the recycle bin. I'm loathe to cancel that and try again though.... A lot of the files I am deleting are zip files if that means anything...

I just checked my task manager and it appears as though Duplicate Cleaner is not responding, so maybe I should try and cancel.

If I do end this and restart and try deleting directly via shell, rather than recycle bin, will I need to check my hard disk drive again for duplicates, as that took about two days!

Well the system restarted so I lost it anyway. now it looks like I need to rescan again. Would be great to know what to do for the fastest results. I certainly seem to be getting a lot of not responding from Duplicate Cleaner

So now I did a duplicate check in a smaller area of the computer. It finally ran over about 5 hours. Deleted some files but now it is stuck again on not responding. with 5 items remaining and 372MB still to delete. Of a total of about 373MB.

I finally gave up and cancelled this. so I now have to run a scan again. But I don't see the point if you cant help me resolve this deleting issue.

Did you try it with 'via windows shell' unchecked on your second attempt?

If it is stalling with 'not responding' it will usually recover if left.
