Ver 4/4.01 crashes

I've been a very satisfied customer of your products for years. Have never had any problems until now. The newest version of Duplicate Cleaner Pro crashes and won't scan.

I'm running Windows 10 on a Toshiba Satellite Radius laptop, with 12GB memory, 1TB drive with about 725GB free.

When I click SCAN, a black box covers the left window. I see the message "program not responding" in the top bar. At that point, I have to use Task Manager to shut it down. I've gone through all the steps one would take to remove and reinstall the program, all to no avail. I've done a fresh download and reinstalled. Didn't make a difference. I selected just one small directory to scan....same black box appears and the program locks up.

I've removed the program for the inth time. This time I installed my former version which I think is 3.97? It's running right now so can't be sure. It's working fine and is chugging along and is about 70% finished.

Hope you have a solution/fix to this problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would ...

(Backup it up first, then...)
Remove Duplicate Cleaner's "database" file.
(Pretty sure you can do that from within the program itself, [can't check at the moment].)
Then run a (small) scan & see if it still crashes.

Thank you for your suggestion to try and correct the problem.

The only file by that name in the previous version is "database.ini". If you have a chance to check your installation, would appreciate knowing if there are other files named "database" or even a directory in the current version. I didn't make any changes in the preferences but when I reinstall the newest release, will reset it any way. This time if I get the black box that covers the window on the left, will snap and pic and upload. That might help pinpoint the problem.

(In Duplicate Cleaner 3.2.7, the files are named DuplicateCleaner.data (or DuplicateCleanerPro.data, depending). & default to a place like, %APPDATA%\DigitalVolcano\... [or somewhere in those parts].

Duplicate Cleaner 4.0.1, not sure offhand, but they'd be in a similar, but separate, location.)

Yes, I'd try resetting it by deleting the database (close the program first). There's a FAQ here with both methods:

Thank you for this info. I'll post again when I've reinstalled the current version. Hope your suggestion works.
