The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 charact

Duplicate file cleaner pro will not delete over 300,000 files because the name is too long. The reason the name is too long is that I have back ups of backups wich creates long file names. If I didn't have multiple back ups I would have long file names but then I would not have a need for a duplicate file cleanser. Duplicate file cleaner found 2,7 TB of duplicate files but only will remove 30GB because the rest have long file names.

From my File Manager (Altap Salamander), which also has its own "long path" issues, I opened Windows Explorer to make a copy of the (existing) files in a known (searched for) "long path directory". Funnily, some (9 of 13) of the files copied as ShortFileNames, the other four as LFN. (I'm on XP.) I didn't look at the copied directory prior to running the scan in Duplicate Cleaner, but wondered why it did not find ALL the files as duplicates (as they were, & based on my search criteria; Name), but the SFN/LFN issue blew that out of the water ;-).

No, I was right to begin with, it is working for me.

What threw me; it (can be) a PITA when dealing with these long paths, in particular knowing which are exactly long (turns out, initially, the four found/deleted were not "long" > 260), but once I changed the search to Content, ignore name, then it found the really "long" files, & successfully deleted them. BUT, when I went to look, again realized I chose the SFN files, & those happened to be < 260, so that "test" again showed nothing. So then I went back again, & copied the same directory, & ended up again with some SFN, some LFN (& at this point got to assume that the SFN were copied that way because of some, again, Windows limitation, & the LFN ones happened to copy that way, because they started off shorter then some Windows limit, ~254). So once I selected the "long" > 260 files, they still deleted as expected.

Window's support for >260 filenames can be unpredictable. I'm pretty sure you can't delete long paths to the Recycle bin, but you may be able to delete them permanently.
