Post by Ian Salem »

Its not deleting what I select it to delete, I downloaded and installed it and ran it on some of my music files, it found 128 duplicates i tried to delete 78 of the files it found but it wont, I need help. My hobby is DJing and its tough when I have so many duplicates of the files I play often

I'm not sure why this is- if you are using the latest version (1.4.3), after hitting the delete button it should at least give a reason why some files weren't deleted (eg x files were protected, or x files had delete errors)
The only other possible issue is if the filenames have special unicode characters in them (eg Japanese) - the current version of DC is not fully unicode compatible.

Ill double check but i believe they are special character free. Any other problems like that, how do i chck the error codes that show up

Everytime I search for duplicates, it always says there is a delete error and I have no idea how to fix it so it will get rid of me duplicates.

if you right-click on one of the files you are trying to delete, select 'Open containing folder in explorer' and then try and delete the file manually, does that work? If it does then I'm running out of ideas!

I neither delete nor move selected files. I get an error message that there is a delete or move error, but does not tell me what the error is. I am able to manually delete a file, but Duplicate Cleaner does not delete. Solution?

Also not able to delete or move selected files on external hard drive. Just says X files had delete errors, 0 files deleted. Running windows 7, could this be something to do with this program not having the proper access/rights to delete?

Well, fixed my own problem. External hard drive had lots of different security groups, but whatever group the program is using (system, authenticated users, etc), didn't have access to delete or move. I removed all the groups and added everyone with full access, that gave the program the proper permissions to delete the files.
