Any wayto display files with same name, different content?

Post by bjkeefe »

Hi, all,

I realize what I'm asking is completely in opposition to the intended purpose of Duplicate Cleaner, but it seems to me that all of the work required is already being done during the scan.

So, to give an example, I have two directories (folders) named ./old and ./new, both containing a few hundred files. Almost all of the files match. Some have the same name, but have different content. Is it possible to filter the results displayed by Duplicate Cleaner to show only those files which have matching names, but not matching content?

Thanks in advance.

[Added] If not, is there a place more appropriate to file a feature request?

Yes, you can set up a scan with this criteria to begin with:

Just select the 'Regular Mode' scan type with 'Ignore Content', then tick 'Same file Names'. Simple!

Thanks for the rapid response. However, I don't think this achieves what I would like. Doesn't this list all files with matching names, regardless of content? I would like to list only files that satisfy both of these criteria:

• Same filename
• Different content

Files that have matching names and matching content should not be in this list. In other words, something like the Unix cmp command, if I recall correctly.

The idea here is that I don't actually want to delete the dupes. I just wondered if I could use the nice interface of Duplicate Cleaner to show me the files that have been changed between one folder and another.
