check found files if readable

Post by stanley »

hi DV,

first, thanks for this great duplicate cleaner app,

is it possible to automate checking of files if its readable or not? i have been manually opening files to see if its readable, i know im a bit paranoid, but i had some bad experience where some files are corrupted.

thanks

Hi,
Not sure how this would be implemented - it's probably too far from DC's core purpose. Interesting idea for a separate app though.

Maybe something like this will work for you.

"Fine Free File Command"
http://www.darwinsys.com/file/

If you had a directory of "doc's", it would read the each file's header, identifying it as a "document" (or whatever). Any file that was not identified as expected would be suspect.

(Just today I was looking at some docs & pdfs - that would not "open". Examining I saw that the first xxx bytes of the file were 0's - the files were corrupted.)

Maybe there's a similar GUI program around?

@DV

thanks for the reply, i found a separate app to do this called checkfolder, http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=95, it would be great if it can be built into duplicate cleaner.

@therube

thanks for the link, i will check it out. check out the link of checkfolder, maybe you can use that as well.
