Fool4U - thanks for your help - I'm still shaping the selection assistant with the aid of your email (sorry no reply yet!) but I have to release 'as-is' now before I get crushed under the wheels of progress.
Marking many files instead of one when they are still the same date is an issue I'm working though.

I'm glad that you chose the file name 'DuplicateCleaner.settings' rather then (something obscure) like 'j.settings'.

In your latest version is there any way to save and load different sets of search criteria? If not can I do it via the registry and if so what is the key I need to save?

Is there a link you can provide that describes the differences in the various matching methods? MD5 etc.

Also one other feature that would be very helpful for long match sessions would be a pause and continue button in addition to the Stop button.

I changed the fonts used, and it went wonky. Selecting a row made that row space between characters, and unselecting didn't undo that
