Portable Duplicate Cleaner

Don't want this to die... a portable version would benefit many who use and love this software.

Of course, now I see that the current version has "portable mode". However, it still requires installer that I can't run unless an admin... or am I missing something?

Install once, then copy the files from the installation folder onto your usb stick, etc.

DC will then run portably and save it's settings in the same folder.

I must be missing something.
I have just an exe file, and when I start it, it adds a few more files in the same folder...?
(2.0 version, and I had it on my external HDD, so I don't quite remember if it is just a copy of some installed somewhere version)
Have you tried to install it at home, copy the exe to flash drive and try it on work comp?)

If you install it once, then copy the files:

DuplicateCleaner.exe, lang_en.ini, AudioGenie3.dll

you should be able to copy those files onto a different computer & have the program run.

(Use the lang_xx.ini as appropriate for you.)

Now this would not be "portable" in the sense that it would still write to the Registry ...

2.0 + doesn't use the registry. It should write to a settings file - this will be alongside the executable when ran portably (ie not in the Program Files folder)

ok, so now since it's portable without writing to the registry, can you make the binaries downloadable from your website then? (so people wouldn't have to install the application first)

also, during the install you could give an option to install normally or install it portable in any directory, like this setup installer..
