Uncontrolled memory usage with RAW images

Post by Callistemon »

Although there is normally no reason to complain about the memory usage of Duplicate Cleaner, scrolling through large thumbnails of RAW images caused the memory load to reach 97%, with 16 GB of memory. The application should pause, and have a message requesting to have other applications closed. Unlike CPU and GPU usage, which are overly constrained, memory usage is actually an issue that can be caused by Duplicate Cleaner. If I didn't have software and scripts configured to display notifications and pause applications when the memory runs out, the computer may have jammed.

Have you noticed if it is particular RAW or does this happen with any RAW?
Have you noticed if other formats (JPEG) or similarly affected?

About how many images do you need to scroll through before it starts eating large scoops of RAM?

(Probably "just" a leak in the code handling RAW.)

It is not specific to any image file. There can be thousands of JPG images that do not cause the error. Maybe 20 to 50 when scrolling through thumbnails, but less when loading a column of image previews.
