How to find folders with same content with music file duplicates by exact audio data (not tags)?

Post by Donk »

I want to find / delete folders with identical content. The folders can have different extensions, music files and not music files, for example images, txt files, etc.

Music files with exact audio data are identical. Their tags can be different. So music files with the exact same audio data and different tags are identical and duplicates can be removed.

Other files than music files must be identical by their whole content, bit by bit. So image files having the identical (bit by bit) content are identical.

What settings do I have set?

Run a Regular Mode -> Same content search, first, on everything.
That will weed out your dups, regardless of file type.

After that, run a Audio Mode -> Match exact audio data, on your audio files.

Match exact audio data (ignore tags)
- Exact audio data is compared, ignoring tags. The audio must match exactly - with identical format, length and compression.

Many thanks!

So I would have to check each single folder of thousands to decide whether or not one or more files can be removed? And if there are identical files, e.g. images, txt files of folders being identical, than they might not be identical anymore after removing single files of them (e.g. dup images in one folder, one image left in another so folders being identical would not be anymore)?
After that, run a Audio Mode -> Match exact audio data, on your audio files.
So scanning again the entire files / folders (minus the deleted ones before)? Isn't it extremely time consuming? And now there are still left the none music files not being dups, so they would not be taken into account now?
