CRC doesn't work with some WAV files

Post by Rogerio Dec »

I have a folder with thounsands of WAV files.
The CRC method incorrectly find FALSE duplicate files.
Just listen to these files to know the diference.
If I believe in Duplicate Cleaner, I will lose many important files!!!
Does anyone have the same problem?

CRC's aren't 100% perfect, though it is fairly rare to find a bad match. You should always check on the files before deleting.

Yes, you should check 6.352 duplicate files to see which one of them is NOT duplicate before deleting... and do it ONE BY ONE...

I think I'm going to bed... I'm having strange thoughts.

Adding extra option in " Remove Selected " menu:
before deleting/moving/hardlinking, compare also files MD5 or other more complex checksum.

The next version of DC will have an option to confirm your selected files (either md5 or byte-by-byte).

I seem to remember people requesting the use of md5 checksums a few years ago when I first came across DC, I'm really quite surprised that it hasn't been implemented yet considering that there are numerous examples on the net of just how poorly crc (yes that applies to crc32 as well) actually works for operations such as this.
