Home tab

The home tab is a starting point for most of the stuff you'll want to do.  It contains buttons to access the Registration window, Help pages and the Log file.  You can also change the language used here.

New scan

This button will close any open scan results, clear the folders to scan, and take you to the scan criteria tab. Optionally it will also reset all the scan settings to the default if the option is checked.

Wizard

This section allows you to run a Wizard.  Wizards are preset scanning setups for you to use and can help to get a quick start.  See the Wizards page for more information.

Load and save scan

Here you can load and save the current criteria, scan location and optionally the scan results (along with any checkmarks on the files and folders). You can also import CSV files of previous scan results.
Please see the Loading and saving page for more detail.

Virtual Folders

Using this tool you can create a database which is virtual 'snapshot' of a location (For example: a folder or drive, offline archive, optical media, a slow network location).  This snapshot can then be used in Duplicate Cleaner in future scans where the original drive doesn't need to be present or connected.  This is handy in many scenarios - for instance comparing working files against a backup or a DVD archive, or for repeated scans against a network drive that would otherwise be very slow.  Note that a virtual folder is not a backup - it's just contains information about the files (not the actual content).
There is more information on the Virtual folders page.
