Fingerprints

On the Duplicate Cleaner 3 site, under 'View More Features / Find Duplicate Images', it says:

Image comparison is fast, but to really speed up repeated scanning Duplicate Cleaner will store 'fingerprints' of your images. This way if you scan an image archive again, or scan it against a new folder, the cached fingerprint will be used. This will speed things up by over 90%.

Does this mean the pgm will ADD info to the files? I remember an early version of Kaspersky AV using Alternate Data Streams to add a tag to every file on my PC, which I later had to remove manually and took quite some time. Or, will the 'fingerprints' be stored separately in a file? Please expand on this. Also, does the current free version 2.1 do this fingerprinting, or is that a new feature for v.3?

The original files will not be touched. The fingerprint cache is saved to a separate file in your local settings folder. This is v3 only, and only for the 'similar images' scans.
Hope this clears things up!
