my list of duplicates has disappeared

I recently started sorting through three external drives containg about 500,000 media fles including 300,000 duplicates . After DC compiled my looong list of duplicates, I went through random subgroups to choose what to delete, and then deleted those selected in more manageable groups of anywhere from 70 to 117,000 files at a time. Most groups contained between 1,000 and 10,000 files. After the files to delete were marked and I clicked the "delete" button, the computer would think for a moment, briefly go blank, and then the list of remaining duplicate files would appear. I kept repeating the process.

Last night, I selected another medium size group of files to delete, but after the computer thought and went blank, the duplicated screen reappeared -- empty. The computer hadn't frozen or anything; it was just as if I had deleted every single file. I checked my recycle bin to see if the missing files were there, but they weren't. I double-checked my external drives to see if the duplicates files were still there, which they were. So I restarted the program and did another scan. This time only one pair of duplicates came up -- a pair that I had added to my comper after the original scan. I rechecked all of my settings, which were fine. I rebooted -- same results (one pair of duplicates). I uninstalled and reinstalled DC, and then ran the program again -- same results: one pair of duplicates.

To this point, I had only been looking for duplicate photos, so I decided to scan for duplicate music. The scan worked fine. I sorted and deleted the music files in subgroups as I had the jpegs, and after every partial delete, the list of remaining duplicates came up as it should. Then I did a video scan, which, again, worked perfectly. So I retried scanning for duplicate jpegs -- with no luck.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Odd, It's almost as if another program (eg picasa) has automatically changed the jpegs causing them to be a little different, or perhaps with slightly different dates, thus DC has stopped picking them up (depending on your criteria)

Have you tried checking a small subset of files which you know to be duplicate?
