"Duplicate Cleaner has stopped working" error

Just loaded Duplicate C;leaner last week and it worked better than I expected. Today, I am attempting to run the program on an external hard drive. The program creates the folders, identifies the duplicates, but when it attempts to populate the lists the "Duplciae Cleaner has stopped workign" appears, and Duplicate Cleaner shuts down. I have plenty of memory and the Recycle bin is totally empty. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled...same thing happens. Anybody have any idea why this error occurs? Thanks in advance. Tony

Does (Windows) Event Viewer show anything pertinent?

(Jumping on this thread so I don't have to start a new one.)

My favorite utility program, Download Cleaner 2.1.0, stopped working on my Windows 7 machine recently.
It doesn't matter whether I run it normally or as Administrator, I get the same Windows error information:
Description:
Stopped working

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: CLR20r3
Problem Signature 01: duplicatecleaner.exe
Problem Signature 02: 2.1.0.0
Problem Signature 03: 4e5921ca
Problem Signature 04: DuplicateCleaner
Problem Signature 05: 2.1.0.0
Problem Signature 06: 4e5921ca
Problem Signature 07: 6b4
Problem Signature 08: ec
Problem Signature 09: System.InvalidOperationException
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, downloading a fresh setup and installing again - no dice. Please help? I will gladly uninstall just about anything else if I can get your program working again.

Possibly a .NET framework corruption. Can you repair or update the framework?

Thanks for the hint about Microsoft .NET.

I did a .NET repair, and rebooted a few times. I also stopped a few possibly interfering programs - again no joy. I've tried right-clicking and Run as Administrator - doesn't even change the problem signature. And I've deleted and reinstalled - from the original installation file, then from a freshly downloaded one (verified latest version, etc).

This is causing a serious problem for me; my workflow for some projects means automatically downloading images from websites using an automated method. One problem with this is that duplicates abound, and I need my Duplicate Cleaner to work.

I'm using Windows 7 home addition, with all updates installed. (Yes, I know - an update might just have caused this, and I'm pursuing that angle with some Microsoft folk.) Any more ideas?

You could try another .NET framework based program (eg paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/download.html) , to test if the issue is Duplicate Cleaner, or a corrupt framework.

Another thing to try is to delete the settings files. Delete everything under:
C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\DigitalVolcano
C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\DigitalVolcano
Worth a try.
