Questions about Hard links

1. What happens if I select all the files of a group and try the hard link option?
2. Is there a way to have a hard linked file only show up in the results once only if there's a copy of the file that's not hardlinked to the hardlinked copy?
example: I download the same file 3 different times to 3 different folders for some reason and it's a file that's not going to be changed so I hard link the 3 copies to free up the space of 2 of them while keeping them accessible in all 3 locations at this point I'd like the '3' files to not show up in duplicate search anymore but then down the line I forget I've already downloaded the file before and download a fresh copy in a 4th location I'd now like a duplicate search to show both the previously linked copy and the new not linked copy so I can link them again
my reading of the help file suggests there's no setting to achieve this combination of outcomes that either I can set it to ignore hard linked files in which case to my understanding in the last situation the two duplicates won't be detected because one of them is hard linked and thus will be ignored. Or don't set it to ignore hard linked files and the 3 files that are really only 1 file in 3 different locations in the drive will continue to show up in future searches as 3 duplicate files
