Can't select files to delete

I am trying this software. It has done a wonderful job of finding my duplicate photos but I cannot select the ones to delete. I've tried to click in the boxes but nothing happens. I've tried using the selection assistant. It acts like it is working but still no items have been selected/marked. I really want to purchase this program but not unless it works. Thank you anyone for your help.

You probably have the folder set to protected-
