Ver 4/4.01 crashes

I've been a very satisfied customer of your products for years. Have never had any problems until now. The newest version of Duplicate Cleaner Pro crashes and won't scan.
I'm running Windows 10 on a Toshiba Satellite Radius laptop, with 12GB memory, 1TB drive with about 725GB free.
When I click SCAN, a black box covers the left window. I see the message "program not responding" in the top bar. At that point, I have to use Task Manager to shut it down. I've gone through all the steps one would take to remove and reinstall the program, all to no avail. I've done a fresh download and reinstalled. Didn't make a difference. I selected just one small directory to scan....same black box appears and the program locks up.
I've removed the program for the inth time. This time I installed my former version which I think is 3.97? It's running right now so can't be sure. It's working fine and is chugging along and is about 70% finished.
