Selecting all but one file within base directories at once?

I've been using Duplicate Cleaner 3 Pro since 2010 and can get around the program fairly well. One thing I often run into is wanting to select duplicates within the same directories more efficiently. I am good at selecting all files the duplicate a drive, folder tree, have a certain pattern such as (Copy 1) in them etc but I can't find a way to tell the program to look at each directory and select duplicates within that same directory and move on to the sub directories, doing the same thing in each one. I have a feeling I may need a regular expression but don't know what it would look like.

For example if I scan my pictures folder I may have:
C:\Users\Owner\Pictures\Car racing.jpg
C:\Users\Owner\Pictures\Car racing_.jpg
C:\Users\Owner\Pictures\Vacation 2014\Joy ride.jpg
C:\Users\Owner\Pictures\Vacation 2014\Joy ride Copy1.jpg

This is a very simplified example, often I will be looking at hundreds of directories like this and I want to have it select one of the car racing.jpg's (since they are within the same directory) one of the Joy ride.jpg's (also because it is within a same directory) and so on. I could manually scan every single directory and make sure "scan sub-directories" is unchecked but that would takes ages. Currently I just go through and select them manually using space-bar to highlight them but I use hours of my time sometimes doing that.

What are some other ways I could go about doing this?

Just to confirm, do you want to do this:

"Select all but one in each group where duplicates are in the same folder"

I can't think of a way to do that just yet, but it could be added as new selection assistant command in a future update.

Thank you for your reply, I was hoping my description would make sense and glad to see it does. What you suggested sounds like just the thing I am looking for. I would love if you could add it in to a future update, it would save me a lot of time. So far I try to find patterns (such as if they all have (2) or Copy of) but there isn't always a pattern--frequently the only pattern is that there is more than one duplicate in many folders and using select all but one usually selects more than I am hoping for.

Do you know if it is a feature you would be able to add relatively easily? I would buy another license for Duplicate Cleaner if that was any incentive, I know it's not much but it's at least something.

It's implemented now, but it will be released in version 4, which is still a few months away!

That is great news, I look forward to version 4! Duplicate Cleaner is my favorite utility.
