Limiting Sel'n Ass't to Block of Selected Files

Post by Wayne Strauss »

First, for the price, DC is an incredible program. Even if you charged a modest sum (e.g., $19.95) I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

My question: If I first select a group of redundant files (i.e., mouse click the first then Shift-click the last) will Selection Assistant limit its scope to the selected group of files? I've been doing this with "Select by Master Path" and get consistently good results.

I've answered my own question. I tested the scenario and found that Selection Assistant is NOT limited by a prior selected group of files. I should have realized that since the '>' functionality gets the path from the last file in the selected group of files. (i.e., there's no way to highlight a group of files then use the '>'; Selection Assistant is modal).

I'm not limited by the way Selection Assistant works (for me, selecting a group of files is really more of a fail safe), but shouldn't one be able to select a group of files on which to operate? I didn't find anything relevant in the documentation or forum.

Oops. The first line of the 2nd paragraph should read, in part, "If I first select a NUMBER OF groupS of redundant files..."

I hope to expand the functionality of the Selection assistant in the next version, this should include operating over a selection!

Lovely idea! I'm glad we thought of it. It's a pleasure to be on the receiving side of what appears to be a professional group. Good job!
