Bug report + suggestion to make DC almost perfect

Post by travelid »

Outstanding software! It's the best free duplicate file finder by far from all others that I've tried over the last 9 years, and that says a LOT. I've used Duplicate Cleaner extensively and I've noticed that if just these 5 things improve, it will be get very close to being a perfect program.

1) Wouldn't it be best if the first button on the toolbar was the Scan Now button? And the About button could be removed, as it's still accessible via the Help menu, like in all other software.

2) Ability to delete many Search Paths/Folders to Scan in the Scan Location tab. Currently Search Paths need to be deleted one by one.

3) Bug: Duplicate files tab: when clicking on the Path, Type, Size, Date columns to sort all duplicate files found by Path/type/size/date or other, the Group order is lost. Files in the same duplicate-files-group should always remain together, regardless of how people need to sort their files, or the sorting becomes useless because the users cannot see what files of that type or size are duplicated.

4) Selection Assistant: When auto-selecting files to deleted based on selected file's path, the opposite option should be available as well: select all others except files in this path.

5) When the user has selected many files (not checkmarked, but just selected with the mouse or with the Shift or Ctrl key), then all Selection Assistant options should be applied only to the selected files, not to all other duplicate files found which are not selected.

Hope this was helpful!

Thanks for all your amazing work!

Thanks for your suggestions!

To address your points:

Good idea.

You can already do this. Just drag and highlight the paths. You can then select 'Remove', hit Delete, or drag them to the left hand pane.

This is by design - ie you may want to see the largest files in the scan, or view everything by path. You are correct though that there needs to be an option to retain the group order in the sort - I've added this onto the list for the next version.

You can do this using the 'Select by location' window, or the 'Mark->Mark all files that duplicate this folder tree elsewhere' right-click context command.

You can do this by turning on the 'Selection assistant->Work only on selected rows' option.

Hope this helps!
