Windows 98SE?

Post by Ed S »

I still keep one box running W98SE for the sake of a couple old apps. FAT 32 file system. Will any past version of Duplicate Cleaner run properly under it? Anyone tried?

I've been trying 1.4.7 but it seems to have problems with the MD5 library file (It'll run in other modes though).

If you can get .NET Framework to install on 98 you might get a newer version to run.

Found a fairly simple "workaround" for this - (I define that as a way to get 'er done, not a true solution)

All my machines are networked with file sharing enabled.
On the W98 machine, share the drive or folder to be scanned. Must set to full access.
Back on the XP machine & within DC, enter the full network path manually (or copy & paste) to the search path list.

After scanning, DC will be able to delete/move/rename files across the network, including moving of files from machine to machine.
This worked to compare & clean up several REALLY elderly drives that XP refused to recognize.

Just thought I'd post this in case it's helpful to others.
