DuplicateCleaner Free 3.0.1 and Win7:

Post by BrianFalllbrook »

I just downloaded DuplicateCleaner Free 3.0.1 yesterday. I installed it. When I started it, Windows 7 notified me that

Window Title],Duplicate Cleaner Free,,[Main Instruction],Duplicate Cleaner Free has stopped working,,[Content],A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.,,[Close program]

I downloaded it again and installed it. I got the same error message when I started it.

HELP!!!

Where did you download it from?
What size was the download, 4,045,859 bytes?
Was the MD5 hash, f1e99432a40c04a5166853fbad75dc0a ?

The install itself completed successfully?

Do you have MS .NET installed on your computer?
What version?
(Such a simple question, so hard to figure out - MS!)

A small utility, run from a C: prompt, to tell:

DNFWVD (25.7 KB) is a Windows console program that let you to quickly discovery which .NET FrameWork versions are installed into your computer up to version 4.0.

Running an antivirus program? Which one?

Otherwise, there should be no issues running 3.0.1 Free on Win7 (that's what I have).

I re-downloaded DuplicateCleaner Free 3.0.1 to my Win7-64bit PC. I got a file of 4,045.859. I do not know how to get the HASH code for it. It downloaded DNFWVB, to determine what version of *.NET I have. When DNFWVB runs I see a black screen with with characters flash by, but I cannot read it. I searched for NET in my Framework64 directory. I have v4.0.30319.

I reinstalled DuplicateCleaner. I let it run. I immediately got the same error message:
================
[Window Title]
Duplicate Cleaner Free

[Main Instruction]
Duplicate Cleaner Free has stopped working

[Content]
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

[Close program]

You would have to actually drop to a C: prompt & run the program.
Running it from Start | Run will do as you say.

But if you only have .NET 4.0 installed, I'm thinking (guessing) that is the problem.

Could be a damaged or missing .NET framework version.

A more friendly version checker is here: (download link at bottom of the page)
http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html
You can paste the useful text in the blue box that comes up.

I've also come across crashes at startup when there are corrupt windows fonts.

Here is what I got from http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html
=========
2.0.50727.5466
->C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727
4.0.30319.296
->C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319

< Installed .NET Frameworks >
.NET FW 2.0 SP 2
.NET FW 3.0 SP 2
.NET FW 3.5 SP 1
.NET FW 4.0 Client
.NET FW 4.0 Full

===========================
Next Step? How find corrupt fonts? Why do other programs have no similar problems? :?: :?:

A good test for a corrupt .NET framework is to try running Paint.NET :

Are there any options/buttons in the error window to display the details of the error? Could be useful in diagnosing the problem. thanks.

No, there are no buttons, etc., to give any more details. Only the following that I just copied, same as previously. I have moved Net to V4.5.

--------------
[Window Title]
Duplicate Cleaner Free

[Main Instruction]
Duplicate Cleaner Free has stopped working

[Content]
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
