Periodically Duplicate Cleaner will freeze my PC. I like this program a lot, and I would like to buy the full version, but I am reluctant to do so when this keeps happening.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

The next set of questions I don't know.
Same file name
Same file extension
Ignore "copy" part of filename
Same file created date/time
Same file created date/time
The only one I always use is Same file extension. Sometimes I'm running another program, sometimes it's running by itself.
It's frozen multiple times, and I haven't recorded information about it. Also, I forgot to mention that when I say it freezes, I mean the whole PC freezes, not DC alone.
What would you suggest I do next?

Not sure on this one. I've run it with combinations of the following:What settings have you enabled?
Same file name
Same file extension

Huge number of files being scanned (millions), or might it happen when scanning only a dozen files?
Huge file sizes (multiple TB sized), or might it happen with 100 MB sized files?
And at that point, you need to do a hard shutdown & reboot the computer?the whole PC freezes

Probably 500,000 files max, but at least 1000 minAnything particular stand out during these times?

File sizes definitely not huge, less than 1 GB, but some files were less than 1 MB (.js files, for example)

Several times it has frozen when I left it to run overnight. Just last night, in fact. It was looking at about 400,000 files, same name and extension (ignoring copies}, regular mode. There were only a few hundred directories, maximum. Probably less than 100.
It actually finished the scan this time, since after I rebooted, the "duplicate files" tab was open.
Does this clarify anything?
