TextCrawler immediately crashes after start

Post by prema_van_smuuf »

Hello, good sirs!

I have a problem with my system suddenly not wanting to run TextCrawler.
I was using the software just fine quite a few months ago, but when I - after a short hiatus - tried to run the application today, I was surprised by a crash.
TextCrawler doesn't even show any of its program window; the crash appears right after I try to open it:

And here it is:

It appears that there has been an System.IO.FileNotFoundException. I am not aware of deletion of any files in direct relation to TextCrawler.
(Uninstall_TextCrawler.exe, TextCrawler.url, TextCrawler_Library.xml, TextCrawler.exe, link.ico are all there... although it seems to me that the only really needed file is the .exe itself)

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (it should have .NET 3.5 in it, right?), I have .NET 4.5 installed and I tried reinstalling the application in question.

Is there any hope? :(

If you are sure you have .NET 3.5 installed (note this installs alongside 4.5 - it's a separate entity), you could try the .NET repair tool - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=30135

Sadly, no luck.

The FixDotNet thingie just tried to disable and restart Windows Update Service, which was and is running fine.
I've tried disabling/enabling .NET 3.5, installing/uninstalling .NET 4.5, trying all sorts of shell
commands (sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3), or other tools that are
supposed to repair/cleanse .NET installations (like dotnetfx_cleanup_tool), but the crash is still an issue.
Now I however know that it has to be only my system's fault.

Only if I knew what files "File" was "NotFound".

I also tried to drop TextCrawler into Dependency Walker, but still no valuable info came up.
The files supposedly not found were exactly the same as in here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1702 ... l-problems ..
But who knows what's the ultimate cause of the crashing.

Oh, well.. :/

It's possibly a Windows update that has damaged something in .NET.

There was something in that thread you linked "Uninstall VS 2010 redistributable package if you have it installed already then install Microsoft Windows 7 SDK " - is this any use?
