Freezing

Post by Dead Serious »

Love the program, but ever since I upgraded to the new version, I can't finish a scan. It always freezes about 40% in. I eventually (after several hours of no increase in number of files/percentage) try to stop the scan, but there are no files listed even though at that point, it's found 500+. I'm using Windows 7. Any suggestions?

Oh, I'm comparing content. (I'm trying a similar name/size run right now, to see if that works)

Sorry you are having trouble - are you using Pro 3.1.2?
Has it found 500 duplicates or 500 files total to scan? If not, how many files are in the scan?

The apparent freezing usually means it is working on a number of very large, same size files (eg 2GB or more each) - these take time with no feedback as to what is happening. You could try running the scan with a file size limit, just to test.

thanks!

Sorry, I should have been clearer--it was 500+ duplicates. I can't remember the total number of files offhand, but it was in the hundreds of thousands. I have let it sit, even overnight, but without any change in percentage completed.

I'm using the latest free version. I was testing it out as a possible replacement for the program I'm currently using. I'm open to purchasing the pro version, but obviously, if I can't get it to work for me, that's not really a feasible option.

I don't think there are any/many files over 2GB, but I'm not certain of that. I'll try a filtered search.

The Pro Version actually has the updated engine, so may work better for you. You can try it free without having to purchase, and see how it handles your scan.
