Posted somewhat similar today on general Dup Cleaner forum -- unsure of to which forum this applies. however this has more info
I love duplicate cleaner -- but have not studied manual as it seems so self explanatory. i am in the process of moving dups out of my lap and desk tops into one of four drives on my MYBOOK terra station. recently i've been selecting "everything" --then selecting all but one duplicate of groups and moving these all but one duplicates to the terrastation to free up space. (1st issue) i don't understand why running it a second time, say within a day -- picks up new files?? but (2nd issue ) most importantly-- this morning i went to get a photo for a rental ad i have been posting regularly. and although photos A, B, and C were in the folder (desktop of desktop) as usual -- photo D was not! and it was nowhere on my desktop! fortunately i found a copy...in my lap top back up drive of My Book!!! (the photo D is on my laptop as well). so...it photo D was somehow erased from my desktop. very scary! how might this have happened? maybe an amateur such as me should not be messing with this? help, someone!
MORE INFO -- a few times I've had to stop the dup selection process for "everything" as it has taken too long (hours and hours and more) and when trying to run another program has frozen -- could this have caused the files to delete? that is -- does Duplicate Cleaner gather all files in a bin -- and if the computer or Dup Cleaner is "not responding" causing me to stop the process altogether -- it dumps everything -- including the one file among groups of duplicates i wanted to retain? hopefully between all my backing up i've not lost a lot -- please help me understand ...what the h___ i'm doing! thanks so much!
cannot find a file after running duplicate-deleted
one more question -- though i am now going to study the manual!! how do i quickly make lists of what's in each file in each drive -- to verify back ups etc? i can't figure how to do this in Windows (XP) but maybe Duplicate Cleaner has a way to help check duplicates, etc.
i'm usually more careful than this -- and thankfully i have been carefully making muliple sets of things (backed photos, videos, etc. separately -- and then with "
everything" ) so i'm hoping the losses are minimal. thanks for helping me...if y'all can!
