there has to be a better way
I have a NAS with 4.5Tb of image files, I started a scan, after 16 hours it was only 10% complete, is there a better way?

Filter.
I.e., don't scan as much - at once.
What scan settings are you using?
Start off easy.
Maybe only same name.
That might point you to particular directory sets that you could then scan using different parameters, say Name & Content, & that (of course depending on your content & directory hierarchies) could wipe out large swaths of files that need not necessarily be scanned against other files...
Your NAS, again depending, could be on a slower "connection" compared to a local disk.
Your NAS could be using slower drives (say 5400 vs 7200) compared to a local disk.
Suppose if you're using RAID, its' level too could impact things?
