Free version crashes laptop

I'm trialling Duplicate Cleaner and whilst it has all the functionality I desire, it is crashing my laptop (Win 10, Dell. Intel I5, SSD HDD) when I try and use it to detect duplicate images.
Is there a mechanism for limiting the results it finds? Say, stop after 100 duplicates found, or stop after 1hr or something similar? Then I can perform multiple runs to finally clean up the mess that is my filesystem :-}
Teensy bit unwilling to buy it before this crashing behaviour is sorted, really.
