To clarify, are they duplicates of other files just with "_(1)" on the end, or are they unique files that have been renamed?

What the files may be, that is anyone's guess.
But you could use a duplicate file finder program to see if they are in fact duplicates ;-).

Finding all "_(1)" files is easy enough.
It's more, in my mind, how, where the files are.
Are they all in a single directory? A single directory tree? Spread out haphazardly throughout the disk?

If all in a single directory or directory tree, then just scan that & see what it shows.

They are scattered throughout my C: drive, different folders and subfolders.

Initially, I will have to search for files that are similar, with original files, and filenames that are slightly different, such as (1).jpg If i have an original, will delete (1).jpg. If not, will just retain.

Finding "_(1)" is simple.

Everything.
Search for: _(1)
Select All & drag into Duplicate Cleaner

After that, kind of hazy, but should be doable.

Export the list of found files
Massage the list, removing the _(1) part
(something like: %s/_(1)// )
Save that as an (Everything) "file list", which you can then open in everything
(that gives you the filenames without the _(1) part)
Again Select All & drag into Duplicate Cleaner

Let DC check that set of files for dups.
