Software doesn't recognize dupes with longer names

Post by Steppenlux »

Hi,
I have this issue where I have the same images with longer names: example: steppenlux.jpg and steppenlux_resultat.
Also the "resultat" ones are a little smaller, because the "resultat" was a remaming made by a photo edition software.

The problem is that Duplicate Cleaner doesn't recognize them as duplicates but as "single files' only
Is there a way to solve this?

PS: I have to add that running another app called "Awesome duplicate cleaner", it does find those files I mentionned as duplicates! The big difference is that I have to delete them one by one in the panel...

Thanks a lot
Paul

Which search mode and settings are you using? (you can paste in the latest entry from your Duplicate Cleaner log if you like)

steppenlux_resultat.
Is that a typo or does the filename have no extension?

In a created confusion of family photos by moving/copying files from one HD to another and then to another HD and again and again. Finally by then aggregating these various sources to a 6TB disk and then applying your program to this disk for duplication separation

This exercise resulted in 9hrs 43min to separate 141206 files in 322 folders. This duplicate seearch and collate was done very accurately and effectively by the program and I accept the performance time.

However there are created some problems:-
• it appears that prior transfer processes have retained details of all file residences that existed in the varied file transfer paths traveled
• In attempting to segregate the desired file and disperse the rest, the program rejects completion as the accumulated names are too long to remove that file.
• Noted that >260 seems to be the name length limit.
• Enclosed is a typical duplicate folder created

• Could the system be improved by pre-warning removal of existing words in the folder collections. In this case say RHODODENDRONS, and enabling any over long group to be separated out for a primary or by second separation determination or chop to length.
• Or words over 260 be terminated at 255 by ***** inserted at 255 instead of the file record detail. All files less than 260 can be removed on first pass and the >260 files retained by user are indicated and available for re-rectification or accepted removal.

You can enable >260 character path name length in the Advanced settings tab
