4.0.5 does not find my full directory tree

Post by 34woody »

I have just installed 4.0.5 free. When I go to Scan Location, I add the folder name to search - in Windows Explorer, I can see that the folder is 325 GB in size, and contains 625 sub-folders and 285,326 files. When I run the scan, it shows scanning 3,502 files (919 MB).

Why does this version not find and scan my entire set of files?

What type of search are you performing?
What options have you enabled?

What folder in particular?

What types of files are you expecting?
What types of files are found?
What types of files are not being found?

Check options for "protected folders"; \Windows, \Program files, ... System files & folders, Junctions (& links, perhaps too?)...
(Much of \Windows, & related locations, are "hard links", & generally should be thought of as "out of bounds".)

Check your search criteria for "filters"; Include/exclude, size/date parameters...

Type of search
- regular mode
Options enabled
- Find Files with: Same content
- More duplicate options: none selected
- Search filters: File filter - Included: *.*
File sizes: Any size
File dates: Any date
Advanced search options: Don't Follow NTFS Mountpoints and Junctions
- More options: General - default options
Advanced settings: MD5 and Use file hash caching

Search folder
- F:Copy of home office 060813/Addins/Scans <-- external hard drive, no Windows or system folders on it
- Status: Included
- Protected: No
- Scan subfolders: Yes

Start scan: result is 44 hashes and 26 quick-hashes calculated; 3502/3502 files scanned (919 MB); 0 duplicates; total time 5 seconds

When I go to Windows File Explorer and find the properties, it shows for the F:Copy of home office 060813/Addins/Scans folder that I have 623 folders containing 285,437 files occupying 325 GB.

When I was running Duplicate Cleaner 3.2.7 I never had this problem.

The files are mostly photo and video files, with some pdf's, PowerPoints, internet shortcuts, etc.

Any help you can offer from here is greatly appreciated.

Try unchecking 'Protect important system folders" in the Options drop down menu. You may have a subfolder with a 'System' flag that it isn't scanning.

If this fails there may be something helpful here:

OK, so you'd expect something like... 285437/285437 files scanned (325 Gb).

F:Copy of home office 060813/Addins/Scans
This is, [Included]:

Ensure that you have not Excluded any subdirectories to Scans, so something like:
[Excluded]: F:Copy of home office 060813/Addins/Scans/Zoo Pics/

If you have, all other directories should be scanned, but none within /Zoo Pics/.
