Search slows down to a standstill every time?

Post by gaiko »

The past few days DC has been starting off fine but then get slower and slower the longer it runs and in many cases never finishes (something like the Dichotomy paradox?). Sometimes it has been with many files, other times quite a few (just a few hundred) large files, I haven't really been following it enough to see a pattern other than searches starting off fine but getting slower and slower.

thoughts?

You could try resetting the database (note you'll lose settings)-

Not really. Technically yes, the scans finish but they blaze through the 1st 80% or so then gradually get slower and slower and I end up waiting longer for the last 5% of scanning than I did for the first 80%... but it does finish. Thoughts?

What version of DC?

Are hard links being counted?
Are you scanning ZIP's?
Are you using Preview?
Are the files stored on a network (as opposed to locally)?
What scan mode & settings are you using?

Ah, do you have logging enabled?
Sometimes you will notice the scan goes speedily, but then when you get to the "end", it seems to take forever.
What is happening, is that at that point (I suppose) it has actually finished the scan, but is writing out the log, which can be large, & relatively time consuming.

What version of DC?
4.0.4
Are hard links being counted?
No

Are you scanning ZIP's?
No

Are you using Preview?
Didn't realize that was an option, I don't think I am.

Are the files stored on a network (as opposed to locally)?
I have done it on network files but have noticed this issue on local files as well.

What scan mode & settings are you using?
usually byte to byte

Ah, do you have logging enabled?
It was apparently enabled but after reading this I disabled it and tried scanning another folder, same result.
