Include hidden folders in "Scan location"

Post by leblancj »

I'd like to include a folder in appdata, e.g., %userprofile%\appdata but there doesn't seem to be a way to select these hidden folders. I see the toggle for "Protected system folders" under the Options menu but changing this doesn't seem to make hidden folder visible in the "scan location" tab. Can this be done?

You can try the 'Show hidden' checkbox under the file list, or simply drag the folders onto the 'folders to search' list direct from Windows Explorer

I explicitly included a hidden folder in the Folders to Search and the program still did not include the files within the hidden folder in the search.

However, when I went into Windows and unchecked the Hidden property of the folder and re-ran the search, then all the duplicate files were found.

This would seem to be a program problem to be fixed.

It probably had a hidden subfolder - try unchecking the 'protect important system folders' Option.

No, there were no other folders below the hidden folder.

"try unchecking the 'protect important system folders' Option"

I tried that and it didn't help.

Try this test:

1. Below any folder create a subfolder and mark the folder as hidden.
2. Copy a file from the folder to the hidden subfolder.
3. Try to have DPC search for and find the dups.

I can't get this to work with any setting.

I had 250+ hidden folders and used Windows Explorer to change the Hidden property to false for all the folders (you can do it for all at once).

DCP is now finding the duplicates.

There does seem to be some type of problem/bug with hidden folders.

It looks like there is an issue here -
When specifically adding a hidden sub folder to scan (shown in grey) underneath a parent folder, this folder will still not be included if it is hidden.

Workarounds -
-Turn off the 'Options->Protect important system folders' setting before the scan
-Or, set the parent folder to 'Scan subfolders' = No, and then add all the child folders into the list underneath manually

I'll look at getting this fixed!

"-Turn off the 'Options->Protect important system folders' setting before the scan"

I did try that and it didn't help.

"-Or, set the parent folder to 'Scan subfolders' = No, and then add all the child folders into the list underneath manually"

Well, there were 250+ individual hidden folders. That would be a lot of work.

I found it easier to take the hidden attribute off of the folders with one edit/update.

"I'll look at getting this fixed!"

Great. This is an awesome program even with this little glitch.

I too would like to be able to check and uncheck the option to look for hidden folders. I myself do not want hidden folders included. I don't see that option in the paid version I just used.

Thx.

Option should be there.
Unchecking it allows DC to see Hidden directories.
