I think the files in the Recycler folder are stored in a special way, with the files being renamed and an additional data file created for each file containing path information, etc.
Duplicate Cleaner won't read this correctly, and you may corrupt the files if you try removing them.

There is actually a warning above the folder list. You can see it in the screenshot here next to the 'Refresh folders' button. http://www.duplicatecleaner.com/manual/duplicate_folders_tab__pro_.htm If you select the folder to be removed in Duplicate Cleaner, the other (non-dupe) files are left alone...

Similar content mode can be very slow - it's probably not frozen. This is something we are working on improving for the next update.
Have you tried looking for Same Content first? You'll get a quicker result, and then the search can be narrowed once the same content files are dealt with.
