Re: Any way to prevent repeat of "Discovering Files"?

An Example: From the Duplicate Folders list, there's four copies of this 24GB folder but I can see that they all have a parent folder named 2019-Mi, which is on 4 drives. So, I want to filter on all folders named "2019-Mi" and dedup them all at once. L:\_Seagate4TB\_Phones\_2019-Mi\Mi-32GB...

Re: Any way to prevent repeat of "Discovering Files"?

Took 2.5 hours to complete the scan. Each drive had at least 2 files for MD5 and a data drive that I didn't touch had 231 new MD5 file calculations. Maybe since my active Data and Windows drives are adding files, some are new (unique) sizes that now match files on that drive. (?) As the user, I know...

Any way to prevent repeat of "Discovering Files"?

How can I efficiently use Duplicate Cleaner? I am searching 25 TB on 14 drives. The first scan took 24 hours to find 10 million duplicate files and 46,000 duplicate folders. A re-scan of the directories (Discovering Files alone, before matching duplicates starts) takes 1.5 hours. After the first sca...

Re: Perhaps it's time to support multithreading scanning.

Yes please! Discovering Files: One drive at a time. Calculating Hashes (MD5 Partial): All drives at once Calculating Hashes (MD5): All drives at once Why is the initial directory scan (discovering files) one drive at a time? This appears to be one place to significantly speed up the program. When I ...

Can I manually create a .dcvitual file?

One of my 1.5 TB source drives and one 5 TB backup drive are failing and can only be partially read. I have a full directory listing, including MD5, created by WinCatalog in June 2022. I can export a csv file from WinCatalog. I would love to be able to convert that into a virtual folder (.dcvirtual ...

Re: Safe to turn off antivirus if drive previously scanned?

Syncovery's author says that its safe to turn off antivirus because the file is read but no way for a virus to run. I assume the same is true for Duplicate Cleaner but would like confirmation. I'll do the same style exclusion for Duplicate Cleaner: Add the Process Exclusion: C:\Program Files\Syncove...

Safe to turn off antivirus if drive previously scanned?

Is it safe to turn off antivirus when the drives were previously scanned by antivirus program? i.e. When Duplicate Cleaner is performing MD5 (or binary) calculations on the contents of a file, is the file being opened in a way that a virus in it could be run? My impression is that anti-virus scanner...

Re: Story: Hardware monitoring is critical! Unique files will save me! (I hope)

Re-copying the files with Duplicate cleaner lead to 582 GB of files instead of 415 GB of marked remaining files, so I don't know what happened there. When I ran TeraCopy again with the first problem files removed (that I have other copies of. DC presumably shows as unique files because corrupt file ...

Re: Story: Hardware monitoring is critical! Unique files will save me! (I hope)

362 GB copied. 9,186 files could not be processed. (Check Log) Problem: How do I find and try the failed files again? They're listed in the text file log but not noted in the actual program, so I need to manually go through the text file or write my own program to retry the copying the files. I firs...
