Speed up for very large fragmented and duplicated music collection
I have a very large music collection which has been partly copied/backed up to several places and modified and I'm trying to get it back into one coherent whole. Files are arranged in trees according to type (FLAC and MP3) and desirability (when space was short, demos and live were hived off elsewhe...

Re: V5 audio scan results less than V4
... and more weirdly V5 seems to drop any (1st 2 minute) duplicate groups containing .ape files. If I have mp3, flac and ape files of the same (similar - different source) track, V5 will not show the dupe, but will if there are only mp3 and flac variants. V5 only shows mp3 dupes with the same bit ra...

Re: V5 audio scan results less than V4
I tried again. What is happening is that only duplicates with the same bit rate are identified in V5, where V4 identifies duplicates with different bit rates (MP3) and also duplicates between MP3 and FLAC. V5 seems to ignore these. I'm using the 'first 2 mins' audio option. I have exports from both ...

Re: V5 Audio comparison
Thanks for the explanation of the Find Duplicates' dropdown options - I find the V5 options less intuitive than the V4!

V5 audio scan results less than V4
I'm running V5 and V4 in tandem while I get to grips with V5. When deduping a subset of my audio collection using the 'First 2 minutes' option, V4 identified many dupes but V5 found none. This might be due to setting withing V5 that I haven't discovered - I haven't tweaked it yet. Any suggestions? I...

V5 Audio comparison
Like others I have only just discovered V5 is available, and have upgraded... I have a large music collection which I am deduping. I use the 'First 2 mins' comparison. I had done a comparison with V4, so hashes were created. There is no instruction as to how these exisiting hashes can be picked up b...

Re: Hard Links
"there needs to be at least one file in each duplicate group left unticked." Surely if there is more than one file left unticked there is no way for the function to know which unticked file to use as the original? I would have thought that you need to leave one and only one file unticked. ...

Re: Audio file selection variations
I didn't come to any conclusion over the length of time with my testing - it might have just been dependent on which way the wind was blowing at the time! - but the main problem with audio files is that the tag info can change, altering the file hash, so identical audio files can be rare. The compar...

Audio file selection variations
It appears that selecting both identical and similar audio details and filenames causes the duplicate identification process to increase in time. To select both exact and similar, select the exact first then the similar, which greys out the exact but leaves it selected. I have an extensive collectio...
