Periodically Duplicate Cleaner will freeze my PC. I like this program a lot, and I would like to buy the full version, but I am reluctant to do so when this keeps happening.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What OS?
How much RAM?

Tell us about the freeze?
Does it unfreeze after some period of time?
What is DC's memory & CPU usage prior to & up to the time of the freeze?

When does it freeze?
If you open DC & let it sit (doing nothing), does it freeze?
If you open DC & run a scan, will it freeze?
What type of scan are you running?
What settings have you enabled?

Not as far as I can tell.

The next set of questions I don't know.

What is DC's memory & CPU usage prior to & up to the time of the freeze?
When does it freeze?
If you open DC & let it sit (doing nothing), does it freeze?

If you open DC & run a scan, will it freeze?

This is the only time I've had it freeze to the best of my knowledge

What type of scan are you running?

Regular mode: Same contact (MD5)

What settings have you enabled?

Not sure on this one. I've run it with combinations of the following:
Same file name
Same file extension
Ignore "copy" part of filename
Same file created date/time
Same file created date/time

The only one I always use is Same file extension. Sometimes I'm running another program, sometimes it's running by itself.

It's frozen multiple times, and I haven't recorded information about it. Also, I forgot to mention that when I say it freezes, I mean the whole PC freezes, not DC alone.

What would you suggest I do next?

Huge number of files being scanned (millions), or might it happen when scanning only a dozen files?
Huge file sizes (multiple TB sized), or might it happen with 100 MB sized files?

Probably 500,000 files max, but at least 1000 min
File sizes definitely not huge, less than 1 GB, but some files were less than 1 MB (.js files, for example)

Yes.

Several times it has frozen when I left it to run overnight. Just last night, in fact. It was looking at about 400,000 files, same name and extension (ignoring copies}, regular mode. There were only a few hundred directories, maximum. Probably less than 100.

It actually finished the scan this time, since after I rebooted, the "duplicate files" tab was open.
