All the functions of the old assistant are there, but pop up from the magic wand button in the screenshot . Mark by location and text are accessible from this, and you can still modify the path and subdirs, etc as usual.

The sel assistant window was calculating the selected filesizes from the list (slow). In version 3.0 the file sizes and selection counts are totalled on the fly, so avoiding slow traversals of the list. Also the selection assistant window has been removed, replaced with a pop up menu, and live selec...

It tends to open the folder tree at the first folder in the 'paths to scan' list. To have a different folder on startup, you can clear the list, or change the folders in it.

No hash is currently calculated unless you are scanning the content (and not byte-by-byte mode). The assistant can be slow with huge amounts of rows - it's a limitation of the listview grid. 80K shouldn't be too bad though - a few seconds maybe. How's the memory looking? Could be struggling if lots ...

It shouldn't pop up with error messages, even if there is a problem.
What version are you using?

If a file is missing, the error log screen shows after the scan, with a message like
Delete Error: H:\Test_Data\moved\Copy (15) of SameName.txt : Invalid or missing filename.

You could try another .NET framework based program (eg paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/download.html) , to test if the issue is Duplicate Cleaner, or a corrupt framework. That should work fine with the quotes, just tested it.

One thing that can happen is your search expression may have got 'curly quotes'. This can happen if you've copied it via a word doc or email.
